I want to extend heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those families, friends and neighbors who were affected and impacted by Hurricane Milton and the unpresented Tornado’s that proceeded the storm. Additionally, I extend heartfelt condolences to those in the adjacent communities who have lost their loved ones because of this tragedy. I would also like to express my sincere respect for the many individuals who provided support and performed rescue efforts on the ground during and after the event in Vero Beach. Having lived in Florida for all but 16 years of my life, this is the first and hopefully the last time that I actually was forced to solicit assistance from others to address storm damage; specifically, a broken underground water pipe. Thanks to quick response from the National Guard and Rob Bolton and the COVB utilities department staff the pipe was timely repaired.
Over the past 40 plus years, I have inspected literally thousands of damaged structures and listened attentively to individuals whose lives were forever altered by a severe storm event. Based upon my experience, I developed the following conclusions:
- Mother Nature cannot be altered. Once a storm develops the atmospheric weather patterns and the water temperature are going to set the storms course and intensity.
- After the storm individuals affected need to stay calm, be kind, and show love and respect to others. Reach out to family, friends and neighbors for support.
- Do not use outside contractors, contact local business owners to perform repairs who will be here if future problems arise.
- Stay away from door-to-door solicitors – they are not licensed contractors and cannot legally provide advice on insurance or construction issues.
and most importantly - Trust in God’s plan.
Lastly, I will work tirelessly to achieve the earliest possible return to normalcy for those affected by this disaster and for the recovery and restoration of the City of Vero Beach. Together we will rebuild a stronger and better Community.
